Ants are found all over the planet, from the hottest deserts to the lush green rainforests. They can be seen in our backyards, in our houses, and even in our workplaces. They live in colonies, & in a single colony are over a million other ants. There are many different ant species. Some of the better-known varieties are the fire ants, army ants, driver ants, weaver ants, silver ants, honeypot ants, bulldog ants, & leafcutter ants. All ant colonies are comprised of three classes of ants, specifically the worker ants, the soldier ants, & the lone queen ant.
Ants are one of the most common creatures in the world & are of different types. Regardless of their small appearance, they may hurt animals as well as humans.
The behavior of ants may vary depending on their class. Ants' color may vary from black or red to brown and their size vary from 2 to 25 millimeters.
Driver ants and army ants are highly developed ants. Army ants can be seen in South America & driver ants are seen in Africa. Unlike other species, these don't have permanent nests. These colonies reproduce via two methods - nuptial flights or fission.
Weaver ants, on the other hand, are those that build their nests in trees by attaching leaves together. These creatures first force the leaves together with a bridge of workers & then they sew the leaves by pressing silk producing larvae on the leaves.
Honeypot ants generally have enlarged abdomens. They usually live in hot, dry places such as Australia, Africa, North America & they can be found in deserts as well. Some places considered them as a great delicacy.
Leafcutter ants live only within their colony & feed only on fungus. These ants come in different sized classes to perform various functions that are to be executed in the colony.
Ants that have a sac of poison are known as the fire ant. Their "poison" is known as piperidine alkaloids.
Lastly, one of the biggest and most primitive varieties of ants are the Australian bulldog ants. They have only one chromosome.
