In 1954 Mr and Mrs Nong Nooch obtained the area in Pattaya, originally the concept was to utilize this as farm land but they were motivated by a foreign trip and made a decision to transform the area into tropical flower gardens. Originally created for preservation of tropical vegetation species the gardens were later transforms into a recreational and tourist attraction. The term Suan signifies garden, therefore the name converted into English implies Nong Nooch (family) gardens. The garden is now managed by their son Mr. Kampon Tansacha.

The Nong Nooch Pattaya flower garden has become a well known attraction and the beautiful garden is currently used as a location to host a number of different events. These events range from flower shows, florist exhibitions, botanical research, preservation, education and for the promotion of tourism in Pattaya. The most famous use of the Pattaya Flower gardens is for the Thai Cultural Show which is an annual occasion in Pattaya.

Every day the flower gardens get over 2000 visitors, a great number of visitors originate from other places in Thailand but many travel from other areas of Asia and all over the globe to check out these lovely gardens. The flower gardens are kept in immaculate form and they are continuously being upgraded with completely new flowers being included on a daily basis.

The Thai cultural activities and dances happen every day, they usually start with The Elephant Show where Elephants are put through humiliation by being made to play football, ride motorbikes and dancing. This is among the more controversial aspects of the flower show and they're thinking about ending these shows. To Thai people Elephants are admired and have an almost holy status, but to people from other countries and animal rights activists this use of Elephants is often deemed undesirable.

There are a number of cultural performances per day such as dancing, and theatrical shows of Thai history and tradition.
